Anomaly 2012

I had the pleasure of demoing at this years Anomaly event in Vancouver with some craaazzzyyyy talented artists. I didn’t even come close to finishing this guy while there – but this is where I took him too afterwards. Hope you enjoy and thanks again to all those who came out, chatted and watched me work!

Prototype 2 Concept Art

So the game just came out this week and the team has been given the all clear to post stuff! I had the pleasure of working with some super talented and it was an excellent experience. Here’s a selection of the stuff I got to do. I mostly contributed to vehicle designs, props, effects, Mutation icon designs, a couple helmets and tons of storyboards. I’ve included a bunch of the process because I always find that stuff super fun as some things go through alot of variation.

If anyone has any questions or whatnot about anything don’t hesitate to ask! Enjoy!

Probably the most despised vehicle in the game as its supposed to ruin your stealthy plans.

This truck was meant to a multi-purpose vehicle which could have various items swapped out on its back to add more variation

A Jeep.

The Pustule: A bursting creature spawner. Had to study lots of displeasing photo reference for these guys…

Concepts for Heller’s consuming.

‘Hunting’ concepts.

Props.

More Props…

A pump station concept.

Some set dressing. Screenshot paintover.

An example of the storyboards I’d get to do.

Some of my Mutation Sketches. These were a ton of fun but also turned out to be quite a challenge to resolve some of the more abstract effects.

A Blackwatch pilot helmet. The creatures on the right never saw the light of day in the game sadly…

Plant men

I’ve been making my way through the John Carter book series of late and wanted to do an interpretation of one of the creatures from the series. Pulp Science fiction creatures are always really interesting as a large amount of them seem to hold very closely to the human form with only a few cosmetic changes: adding a tail, extra arms, give them tentacles etc. The colors alone are usually completely ridiculous as well.

Keeping this in mind, here’s my concept for the plant men of mars along with a bunch of preliminary sketches.

Update!

Hey guys,

Andrew has agreed to transfer Critical Oddness to me for my art blogging needs so I’ve remodeled the blog somewhat to accommodate for this. He may still post here in the future as a guest, but the official ‘shared’ aspect of the blog is no longer occurring. Thanks Andy!
