Falling Man Storyboard tease
Here’s a little taste of a long term project I’ve been working on for my storyboarding class. As I started coloring the 18 frames I adjusted the coloring style to more of a cell-shaded animated show look in order to save time and avoid rendering. Unfortunately this was done 8 frames in so i have to go back over the older ones (which were rendered). Seems to be going well so far, I’ll post the whole thing here when its done in another week and a bit. Anyways, here’s a couple scenes shots from the final showdown scene. You can also compare the rendered version with that of the new cell shaded styled one.

Looks great! Aren’t storyboards supposed to be black and white though?
Totally depends on the production values of a piece and if they’re shooting for a very specific mood to be experienced through color and environment. Or they could even be as simple as pencil scribbles. Full color was a part of the project requirement though – how far we render it is totally up to us though.

How long does it take you to do each frame?
Once I’ve resolved the color scheme per scene each frame takes about 30-40 minutes. If you’re counting production of the pencils – add many hours, especially the ones with fully worked out perspective or a tough peoples interaction (you’ll see what i mean soon enough).
keep thos one you already did as is, I don’t think one of the keys is conistency
